Crikey makes me feel good about my 2 year rebuild.
Bought as a box of bits (well, lots of boxes).
Did the body first (8 months!), then the mechanicals (much quicker and more satisfying!).
Got it MoT'd practically 2 years to the day from when I started. But at that stage still no carpets etc.

Now 18 months on and still have a list of jobs - but I guess it will never be "finished" - but I have done about 3000 miles in the 18 months (including moving house and putting it in storage for 3 months).

Just keep plodding away - but have a target!

I bought mine in August 06 as a basket case in bits, I have all the paint off including the black underbody paint did most of that by sand blasting, doing this myself so I could control the pressure and intensity not a bad result i thought, I also have made a rotator so I could glas in new lower door bobbins. Most of the glass repairs have been done so I hope to get it in undercoat by next February

Currently working on the frame and running gear, I am in no real hurry and expect to take another two years before I drive it to the licence station.

The car was originally red, white when I got it now I am undecided on the colour I keep changing from mid life crisis red, BRG and boring white..............

Hi Richard.

My brother has a bodyshop in Hertfordshire and works on both modern and restoration projects. He also has a couple of older Lotus's himself. Next up when the Elan is finally finished is to start on a ground up restore on my JPS Europa. I'm trying to get him to take my work a bit more seriously and stop working on customers cars so hopefully the Europa won't be off road for 3 years!

Hi all,

I bought my +2S in October 1990 as a restoration project, my wife then announced that she was expecting our first child in November. Went from two good incomes and money to burn to one reasonable income and an extra body to feed, clothe, etc!!!!
On the positive side, I now have two boys, 18 and 15 years, both willing to lug the heavy bits around :D .
Back to the car, chassis is done, engine and gearbox done, interior and lots of little fiddly bits done, body is being stripped and repaired prior to sending off for finishing and respray.
Then all I have to do is remember how it all goes back together. I did have lots of pictures but, and heres a warning to you folks snapping away with your digital cameras, I lost most of them when my computer crashed and I had not done any back ups for several years

Anyway, if all goes to plan, I hope to be finished mid 2010, hopefully before its 20th anniversary.

Chris.

Remember with all restoration work:

You can do it quickly.
You can do it cheap.
You can do it right.
? Pick any two

Hi All
I might as well add a bit here to the fun!

I bought my S3 dhc 1968 SE as a totally stripped basket case -minus chassis and interior.
When I bought it in 2005 - it had been stripped down by the previuos ,previuos owner in 1974 ready for new chassis and as usual life and lotus Elise got in the way and sold the parts to Paul Matty of whom I purchased the basket from.

Gradually I built up the rolling chassis, rebuilt the engine and had the body restored by Options 1 - and just completed interior trim, and finalising electrics - which are proving timeconsuming and setting up engine and rolling gear being the final items - so close yet so far- I am hoping to have it fully rod legal this year - as I keep saying. :P

I attach some photos for viewing and if anyone wants any onfo or details let me know.

Regards
