Christian - take a look at the photograph again. The yellow lettering on the door certainly appears to be "Team Kelvedon", suggesting it is Pat Thomas in one of his cars above his own commentary.

Here we go.

The "Gold Bug" looks like the Sean Walker replica (built from a US 26/R) of the original Ian Walker (Sean's father) Gold Bugs. Sean's car was built up about 4/5 years ago, and was sold earlier this year, having just about cleaned up in European racing. Is this that car?

EDIT DEC 2012: This was the John Delaine car.

 Sorry about that mistake , I can't have another look at it , I had only a -too- quick look at my friend's copy and btw I didn't know that Pat Thomas drove a brg Elan just like TT ...
But , if one of you has a better picture ... Please.
Christian.

Sean Walker has bought back the Gold Bug replica and raced it at Silverstone recently, it was built from the 1965 Daytona car once owned by Lance Pruyn and co driven by Peter Pulver and Newton Davis.
The one in the pics is probably one of the two original Gold Bugs.

Tried to pic up the Motorsport article but the June issue is gone from the shelves. Any chance someone could scan and send to me at [email protected]

I'm told the owner of the Gold Bug I saw at Infinion Raceway last week is John Dehan (sp?) from Redondo Beach CA.

Originally two gold bugs were run by Ian Walker with access to Lotus works drivers when available.

The car at the wine country classic is now owned by John Delane and according to the entry list 3 other 26R' were entered plus an Elan by Mike Taradash who has owned two 26Rs in the past.

Ted Walker, who owned the car in the photos at one time, reckons there were three but only this one survives (apart from the recreation). He says that it has spent most of its life in the US, Don Orosco being the first owner there.

EDIT DEC 2012: Two only with "normal" bodies, the third was the ally fastback. One is now in Japan.

For those in BC, apparently it will be at the Westwood reunion on the July 19 week-end, whatever that means.

Pete --Westwood was a race track in British Columbia --I believe its a housing subdivision now . there is reunion of the cars and drivers that raced there planned in the area --[ maybe a slow lap of the old track in the housing complex while people run and grab their children off the streets away from the crazy oldsters in funny old cars ]---at one time to be Canadian champion one had to compete in a race on tracks in other provinces >and the runoffs were in different tracks accross Canada so Westwood was important but 2000 miles away from Ontario AND a huge investment of time and money to race from Shubincidy Nova Scotia to Westwood B.C. a continent away --LIKE DRIVING FROM YOUR LOCAL TRACK TO SPAIN two and a half times for the weekend from Ontario and 5 times from Nova Scotia ----racers were dedicated then -ed

Thanks Ed. I thought that Canada was a small place, the Brits bought it from France for about six quid, two goats and a chicken.

not quite ------France bought it from the Indians for some beads and an ax ---- the cost of winning it from the French was General Wolf and a lot of red coats [ Wolf is buried in the family crypt in England ]--google the plains of Abraham -the prairies in the middle on the continent are so flat and big you can watch your wife leave you for three days --however the most of the population LIVE about 50 miles deep from the U.S. border and 5000 km long or3000 miles long if you go any further north the bears and Indians will get you-and once you leave Ontario the roads are dead straight with no bends for hundreds of miles [with Mounties hiding in the ditch ready to give you a ticket for speeding ] so your [or my] 26r is just an unreliable transportation device and one may as well take a bus as you will travel through 6 time zones -and Texans hate this but Texas fits in Ontario 2 and a half times -----ed
