I recall a company called "Mag gard" or very similar producing a throttle linkage set up that was quite like that.
Their name was in/on the casting

mart2elan,
I am very curious about the throttle linkage and return spring mount on the top of the front carburettor. I saw something like that on an Elite several years ago but have not been able to get any more information. Where did you find this?

The problem is the backing strip. It is much thicker than the facing part. When I warmed it enough to bend it the part that shows curled
Susan Miller supplied my filler strip and warming was all that was required. I did take a bit of time over forming the curve having previously been warned that it can be a problem.
As suggested a few notches would also help.
I opted for polyurethane adhesive (I actually used windscreen fitting glue) so that the strip is pretty much a permanent fit without any visible fixings at all.

Hi Marten, congratulations on a splendid job.
I am glad to see another Elan brought back on the road again.
You will find out that Elans are indeed a rare sight on our Dutch roads.
I hope you will enjoy lots of top down driving in our Flatlands and maybe
we'll bump into eachother on a fine day.
You will find out that the Elan is rarely recognised by other Classic Car drivers.
For me it's all the more fun because somehow I feel I am part of an "initiated Brotherhood".
(barely no one knows how much fun these cars can be to drive)
Wishing you a blissful summer

Russ,
I promised some close up pictures of the throttle linkage but i coudn't sit down behind the PC with the the beautiful weather we have had here the last 2 day's (driving weather). A little bit delayed but here the are.
I can find any brand on the linkage. The only think i can find are partnumbers like L4, L7, L?.

Hi Leo, you are right.
The last day's driving around i have seen a lot of question marks on faces indeed. Most people here don't know the car. They know Lotus but "did't they build these as well???" Even most Triumph and MG drivers can't place the Elan.
I have seen the Elan the first time when i was 16 (already 34 jears ago) and liked it from the start.
All those years later i have never seen one again in the Netherlands untill last year in a classic tour somewhere near Loosdrecht.
3 years ago on the way to Calais i have seen a Sprint in Belgium driving in the pouring rain. I was on my way to England wih a trailer to pick up de Elan. A coincidence or a sign!!!

Marten, that could have been us from the Zeebrugge ferry. We went to Scotland (great driving up there) and only had rain in Belgium. Was it red?

Leo,
Yes it was red .
I can give you the exact date, saturday october 1 2005.
So we probably already bumbed into eachother without knowing and with only one Elan.
A second time with both ELan must be possible too.

Marten, thanks very much for the additional images. This is the same system I had seen on an Elite sometime back. It is not the Magard system, sorry Mr. Pelly, although all the cast bits suggest some similarity. I am interested because I am building a tall block Twin Cam for my +2 and the system you have has a low profile where it matters, toward the inlet trumpets. I have been using the Weber bent sheet metal system for several years. It works very well but the under-bonnet clearance is minimal with the standard 1500 block.

Well whatever make that linkage is I think your last worry will be about it breaking.
It looks solid to say the least.
Could the material therefore possibly be Magnesium?
Cheers
John
