have read some of your comments , however it wasnt the police that got the car back it was kenny ,to be honest dont think thy knew where to start, it would appear the car and trailer didnt travel very far, but was well hidden , kenny has owned the car since 1975, so just a couple of years then , since that time as you do pour money in to your beloved car, mag uprights fully roesjointed suspension, mag gearbox , and diff, list goes on , he was between a rock and a hard place, pay up or it gets torched you tell the poice it gets torched ,if we get followed it gets torched , what would a elan of kennys spec cost to day, bearing in mind his engine was rebult begining of the seaon at a cost ?12k , its all well and good to sit on the side line and say this sets a presidint, you all have to stand up for your self and do what you have to do to try and look after your beloveded cars

I suppose the Police aren't interested; a shame because those villains need to be caught.
I expect Forensics would find something that would make a match to someone that they already have on record, if they made the effort.
Is there still a chance of them torching it? If so then that's not a good situation to be in.
If that's the case they (Plod) should be involved.
The car's now safe or at least for the moment.

Best of luck
John

welll you cant count on the cops ---their idea of law enforcement is to hide in the bushes to get you at 10 over the limit -you are apologetic and don't carry a gun and the cop gets overtime to go to court if you plead not guilty ---what a system ---- ---I had to convince the local drug dealer to leave by slashing his tire and meeting him at the door with a molotov cocktail and a lighter with a suggestion that it will be through his living room window in 4 weeks ----he was gone in 3 weeks ----ed ------------------------ as long as you take it they will give it

Scary stuff. Glad to hear the car's back. I presume it's now out of harm's way. Has this sort of thing happened before? If so what was the long term outcome?

Sean (with his alarmed and triple locked garage - but my car's in bits and spread throughout the house from loft to lounge, so good luck stealing it...)

Sean,
Wouldn't trust just taking it to bits and puting it in the loft...
Maybe you should bury it as well

Tim, I'd then forget where they are - but I guess at least the parts'd be safe. Perhaps I should save effort and just bury money in the garden...

How topical, I guess there are a load of us on here that wish we'd buried our cash in the garden, under the present circumstances.
I'm still crying into my beer.
The best Bavarian sort of course :D

Back to subject:
The stolen Elan is the first I've heard of.
The scroats that took it probably didn't know what was in that trailor.
If they did well??
They're so special that the thieves would have tremendous difficulty in making any cash out of them.
Merc's & Beemers are the best targets; I'm told.
During the rebuild of my Elan I made it unique ba putting discreet identification marks on nearly all of the bits.
Even if it was pulled to bits & sold as parts they could be identified as being mine.

Note to the thread originators: This not a gloat or being clever in retrospect. I'm sincerely glad that, that very special car is back with it's rightful owner

Cheers
John

I guess that the only advantage of owning an old sportscar is that they are harder to get rid off than i.e. a newer Porsche, BMW (wasn't there an EMW before WW2 as well?) or Merc.

One of my former customers in the Netherlands is specialized in Track and Trace systems wich can also be integratedwith a circuit breaker so that the car stops running if it's lost.

The costs for installing a complete kit and continuous positioning for a yer was about 1000? including the first years subscription. Mainly the installed the system on excavators and trucks, but also on exclusive cars where the insurance company demanded it.

A friend of mine has a Jaguar with trackand trace and sees to it that the car is always connected to a charger when in the garage for a while. The police has once showed up at his house because the Track and Trace system had failed due to powerfailure. No fun at aal waking up and having the Blues tell you that your carhas been stolen whilst it is still standing in a secure garage...

Oh well, happily the Elan is back. Nowjust hope that the crooks get caught and strung up.

We raise up our glasses against evil forces, whisky for my friends - and beer for my horses.
"Make the suspension adjustable and they will adjust it wrong - look at what they can do to a Weber carburetor in just a few moments of stupidity with a screwdriver..." (CABC)

My one problem is that distance keeps me from my Elan. (36/5395)
