S2 photos and history. What parts are missing?

Ed,
I have to disagree about the roll bar. The one in your car looks to be a Lotus supplied one. The bar in the early 'white' photos was probably localy made. It has either subsequently been modified in 'blue' guise or a similar relacement made.
You wouldn't get any of them past a UK race scrutineer these days.
Just as an aside, I do think it's a shame that the windscreen was discarded for racing in the US. I don't know why but to me it spoils the 'line' of the car.

Thanks for the useful input. The plan is to go back to Cirrus White, basically I'd like to put the car back to (cosmetically at least) 1966-spec. The original body will of course be retained.
Regarding the engine, Gary pointed out that it would be a shame to potentially damage the original so considering I'd like it hotted up to 140bhp or so, it's maybe worth having a fresh motor installed. Let's see what the costs are.
The current rollhoop is not the original which looked pretty crudely constructed. I'll have to look into the options for a new one if I want to go racing. However, I'm no Ayrton Senna and I think I'd like to just use the car for road use and the occasional track day so might just keep the current hoop.

Hi Steve,
I haven't even started the car yet due to a fairly complicated battery arrangement (see earlier post)! I guess when it's operational it would be sensible to get one of those foam filters to cover the carbs just like you see on single seat racing cars.

Since my last post the decision has been made to precisely restore the car to exactly how it would have been after it's final race of 1966.
I have had a look for the body number today and all I can find so far is this 22 positioned on the front bulkhead - can anyone shed any light?
In the meantime I will go and tale the door trim off to see if I can find any markings on them.

Just removed the door trim from both sides. Unfortunately, when the car was first restored for vintage racing back in the late 1980's/early 1990's, they did a very thorough job of painting it blue. Even the door internals are blue and there are no markings on the backs of either door trim section.

Take a look at Brian's photos, he has 26/3944 with the same 22 molded into the bonnet ledge.

along with these hex shapes on the other side
Where did you origianally get the body number 3778 from?
also take a look at the photos of 26/4142 that were posted a few months ago.

Thanks Gary - don't know how I missed those threads you mentioned.
My car has the half dozen hex shapes too. I'm sure the body number info came from either Lotus or the previous owner but I can't seem to track the e-mail down. May have to get in touch with them again if I've accidentally deleted it.

Here's a real mish-mash of instruments - Smiths, VDO and Jaeger! These are about the last things I need to track down myself (I'm guessing you can't get the right instruments off the shelf???).
If anyone could confirm which ones are probably original, which are later additions and post images of what 4143 would have originally been equipped with I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm afraid it's not! The 2 seat Elans only had 4 instuments....here's a lhd one for comparison. The steering wheel in this picture is probably the original woodrim, but with a cover fitted.
