Elan Values

PostPost by: DJThom » Sun Apr 06, 2008 11:28 pm

Mark

I appreciate your comment defending the MGB from the standpoint of the different price/performance ranges. My MGB fills a cherished place in the garage beside the Elan. Different cars, different strengths, different weaknesses.

I sold a BMW cabriolet to buy my Elan. Today my BMW would be worth 15K if I was lucky, and the Elan is holding the value of my purchase price plus what I put into it. So for me it was the best financial decision I could have made.

Plus it gives me the added enjoyment of having something that can be worked on. So given my circumstances, the Elan is the perfect investment.

Looks lucky it did not catch fire as the fuel tank must have been badly damaged.

Ah, but Gary, have you bought any parts, especially panels, for your Lotus Cortina lately? Eye-watering prices now being paid. Keep the Elan exactly where it is.

And don't forget the early steering wheel that recently sold for ?1900.

Hi Mark
No new parts for my mk1 Lotus Cortina, I have been buying 2 door mk1 gt's for $350 to $500, whats that around ?150?. I have been watching the ebay trash with amusement, the lads on your side have been drinking bad water or something. The New England Cortina's are of little value once the folks have taken the engines...

I paid a little more for this gt shell out of California, hope to drop a 5.0 Mustang engine and gearbox into it and have some fun.

That's the way to do it Gary. You can buy 25 CARS (if you can find them) for the price of a pair of inner and outer wings, a front panel and a pair of rear lights. These guys haven't been drinking something, they are completely barking mad!
