Elan Sprint oil Pressure

Yep, it has a High pressure pump. I'd advise taking it off and fitting a standard pump, a good s/h Burman will do the job nicely. There's another original make, but I can't remember the brand name at the mo.
I've had to do it with two of my Elan's that came with HP pumps. They don't need one.
Vast majority of new ones are either HP, or non-descript make, you're much better off with a good S/H original one.

That's the one, both should have either "FORD", or "FOMOCO" cast into the pump.
I bought both of mine from Ebay, they turn up regularly,

Hi Guys,
When I had a high pressure pump on my car, it read 60psi at running revs but 25psi when idling as it does now with a 40psi pump. Our cars do not run at 40psi when idling.
It seems to me that both readings are high so I wonder if the gauge is faulty and reading about 50% over at all times.
It may be the gauge that is wrong, not the pump. I suggest you check the oil pressure with a different gauge before spending money on a pump.

There’s a number of different variations of Ford pumps. All will work but some are better than others. Best ones are the latest ones with 731M part number cast into the body.
FYI - early canister type filter pumps have a lower flow rate, intermediate spin on filter pumps have separate oil bypass, late spin on filter pumps have oil bypass integrated with intake port.

As previously posted, it's a high pressure pump.

No problem just remove Engine Mount Screws through Chassis. Block of wood under Sump and Scissor Jack

After having removed the exhaust manifold and dynamo / alternator, not to mention undoing / removing both engine mounts, gearbox bracket etc. I know, just a 2 minute job for some of you, but a mornings work for me. And thats before sliding the engine over about 4".
I would dearly love to watch some folk actually work on their cars, I need a good laugh.
