Good afternoon
I have a Lotus Elan S3 FHC it does not have a latch on the dash, i am looking to fit a new part if available.
I have been in touch with SJ Sportscars and they say it is not available.
Is there a part number for the latch or where i could purchase one?
Is there an alternative latch which can be fitted.
Regards
Geoff

What type is it you're looking for ..... the lock or the touch latch? Kelvedon has them both.

I think that there may have been a couple of different types of latch fitted. So you know what you MAY be looking for, this is on my May '67 Coupe, and it's definitely original to the car.

The S3 glovebox latch is originally from a Ford Cortina.
The plastic section becomes worn and/or brittle over time and is still available to purchase https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383639063111
If you have access to a 3D printer, you can print your own. I reverse engineered the standard latch and updated it to include a backstop so the lid couldn't be pushed in too far. You can download the files from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5889618 There is also a link to the original Cortina part that can be printed.

The top one looks like the one fitted to S2 dhc and coupe glove box lids, it was also one a s3 coupe I owned, knowing Kotus, I expect they used up stock then move to the other cortina version shown, although must say I’ve not seen one of those on another elan.

If I am seeing the model correctly, your 3D print is for the ‘non-keyed’ type?
I have a key, but no backing plate to latch on (but could make one)
