bent push rod

I have an elan s4 1969. Have owned the car for just over a year, clutch has been working well. This weekend went to start the car but noticed that the clutch pedal was much higher than it shoud be. After inspecting the pedal box I noticed that the push rod had come away from the piston, the retaining clip had obviosly failed some how. Decided to remove clutch master cylider completely. Have ordered a new master cylinder from SJ. After cleaning up the old parts it is obvious that the push rod is bent, I dont think it should be like this. See attachment. How would this have occured? Has it been like this for some time? where can I get a replacemnt push rod?

Probably bent after the circlip holding it into the master cylinder failed, somehow getting cocked over slightly whilst you were pressing the pedal, and bending the pushrod.
Easy to straighten though, then just replace the circlip.

Get your blow torch out and gently straighten it.
