Hi All
I am new to this site and looking for guidance. I have been offered an Elan 4 in great mechanical condition but with poor bodywork and I am trying to find out about its build history.
The unit number is 45/9642
The body number 8233
The engine number is K21164
The current owner belives it was a self build car, how would confirm this?
I have checked the register and nothing is listed
Thanks in advance
Steve

The factory could confirm it, although it shouldn't make any difference to either the price or its condition. If it was built as a kit, that would have been.......... 45 to 50 years ago !
Place the Registration Number on here, someone may know of its origins.
Regards
Richard

This is a Standard (ie not SE) specification Domestic S4 Elan which was built in late 1969. My records have no invoice date against that car.
Look on the VIN plate. If the Engine No is scribed onto it then it would likely have left the factory fully built. If there is no Engine No it generally signifies the car was bought in component form.
