Looking for a lost sprint.

PostPost by: Elan Peter » Wed May 29, 2019 2:15 pm

Hello everyone, I am enquiring on behalf of a friend and wondered if somebody would be able to find a sprint Elan he used to own. It was a 1973 red sprint registered ABK 448k. Any assistance would be great as we would like to track it down.
Best regards, P

It?s not on the dvla database so something happened to it before they went to the current database (early 80?#?).

So either written off/scrapped, exported or sitting in a barn somewhere.

Hi Steve, thanks for replying. The previous owner says that it may have been a 71 car as he did some checks.
The VIN/chassis/frame number is:
7102040208E
Engine number N 23216
I hope that helps anybody else who knows anything.

Peter, I?m afraid I have no record of this car on my Sprint register. Since it falls into the range of those records that were lost in the flood at Hethel, neither will the factory be able to offer any help.

It may be worth asking Club Lotus if they?ve any record of it, otherwise it appears to have perished.

It maybe worth advising where it was based when last sold ?

The car is believed to have been stolen years ago, my friend asked for my help to find the car.
He has given me the above details but that is all I know.
Best regards, P

Then there?s zero chance of it ever turning up now after 30+ years of being missing. It will have either been given a new ID and is masquerading still under that ID or more likely robbed of its engine/box and put in an Anglia, Cortina or lookylikey Seven

You are probably right. I will have to tell the "owner" (I suppose he still is the owner).
Shame that we couldn't find it but I would like to thank everybody for trying. You have all been very helpful.

Probably not the owner - presumably his insurers paid out so they are the owners now.

I don't think they ever paid out, that's why he wants it back!

Not sure, all I know is that he kept the car in a lock-up and somebody broke in and stole the sprint.
And that's all I know.
