New Elan imminent?

PostPost by: elanfan1 » Fri Apr 01, 2016 1:04 pm

Lotus rumoured to announce plans for a revised Elan. Strongly based on the old Elan using new moulds with a front engine possibly 2 litre Ford mated to a 6 speed box. Aimed at taking on the MX5

Lotus has a concept with "Elan" plates going round most of the Motors shows.

Wouldn't surprise me to much if Lotus jumped on the Retro car thing jag and a few other manufactures are doing at the moment, that said i'd doubt a 70's Elan in its standard shape and size would mean modern regulations (but with Injection molded GRP they might finally fix the door fit)

Also i don't know if your aware but there is a rumor Lotus are teaming up to build an affordable Electric car (i believe it's with Tesla)

More than likely.... Those pics where from 2013, it's probably just a slightly better looking Evora.

The one i find amusing is that the new Electric Lotus may well be called the Lotus Elon  (No joking)

The original Tesla was a Lotus, essentially. Built at Hethel on an Elise chassis.

Not always. US-market cars used the Hethel-built chassis which was then sent to Menlo Park California for final assembly; for all other markets final assembly was at Wymondham.

I'm sure you're right. When I was on a Hethel factory tour a few years back the finished cars I saw were being packed up for export to the States. Complete minus battery packs which were fitted Stateside.
