Hi everyone. I put together a simple VIN search tool for Lotus Elan's. It's still a work in progress but it has useful information like Engine Number & Born date. Your feedback is much appreciated.

Hello Sunny,
Where did you get the engine number from?
Terry.

Hey Terry, I came across a list about 7 years ago that had a significant amount of data. The engine number was part of that dataset. I'm looking for the community to comment accordingly. I'll likely put a user curation page where owner will be able to update their data per their Elans today. Colors change, Engine's change, Components change, etc.... It's still a work in progress. Hopefully it's useful for the community.

Hello Sonny,
I found a twincam head last week with the engine number on the back - LP4500
Any chance you might know the chassis it came from?
Thank you.

Hey Dan, doesn't look like it's off an Elan. Here's the data for for close models:
'4699','LP4507'
'5102','LP4502'
'5123','LP4501'

Sonny,
Worked like a charm. Linked directly to my car with old picture. Tomorrow I'll check my head LP number which I believe to be from a much later car.
I was wondering if there was any use in gathering other information. I have more info than I ever imagined from the Historian and other documentation, including when, where, and why my original engine was replaced. I suppose all that info should really be in the registry though.
Nice work!

Thanks for the feedback, Russ.
Over the next few weeks, I'll put an 'owner' car page up on the site. This will allow owners to claim their cars, post pictures, component data, history, restoration videos, and information they feel is relevant about their cars.
As I'm going through my S2 restoration process (now, 6 years in ) these are just tools I wish I had.

Sonny, I'm having a problem finding my car: 45/0243K. Tried 243K and 0243K but nothing comes up.
Are you simply linking to the already exisiting DB?

That's impressive Sonny.
Worked perfectly for my S2, with the correct engine number & factory sale date (the car was sold as a kit direct to a customer on Jersey - no dealer involved) Regularly being asked why I have a 65 manufactured S2 with a 68 registration plate - that's when the car first came back to the UK & was registered here - these days I guess it would get a date related plated - back then it was just a second hand vehicle)

Finds my elan and original engine number ( must scratch that on a block again one day !!) though the date is the sales date in December 68 not the factory build date in August 68. I remember some comments about the database thats been floating around having sales dates in it. Links nicely to the register though
cheers
