Does anybody know if there is a Lotus Elan register, I found one for +2's but nothing for the Elan?
If there isn't one I would be prepared to start one if enough people are interested

Hello Carl,
We had one on this site, but took it down due to the problem of maintaining the information and people emails being ripped by spam providers.
There are plans to have one built, but that takes money. As I am between permenant positions (doing a short term contract job to feed the family), it has been hard to justify the expense.
We will have one. Just need a good PHP/mySQL coder and we are on our way.
Any volunteers??????

The key requirements are:
1. The ability of a user to register. This includes basic demographic data of name, location (city, state/province/region, country, global area(i.e. Americas, EUC, UK, Africa, Australia, etc.), contact info, userid and password.
2. The ability to register a car currently owned. This includes car data, serial numbers, key facts, dates of ownership.
3. The ability to register a car previously owned. This includes car data, serial numbers, key facts, dates of ownership.
4. The ability to view all cars by serial number, car type or car location (location can only be used by listing of current owner).
5. The ability to list owners by car type or location.
6. The ability to view the genealogy or history of a car. A listing of all previous owners.
This is the high level summary of the requirements. I have looked for a something that would provide this level of detail, but have not found anything. I used to keep this up manual, but it took several hours to manually update each person/car. The forum could provide basic data, but not the reporting type of function that was the most useful.

If you can already program then PHP is easy to learn. I would recommend taking an object orientated approach rather than procedural as php can do both. There is plenty of documentation on the net to get you started plus some very good text books. Normally I would be happy to join in and help but I already have a lot of tasks taking up my time at the moment.

I'm starting to bash together an Elan registry. I do not intend the first version to have a bunch of feature, just a way to capture the data and display it.
What data should be capture? So far I have
O=optional
R=required
Anything else??
I've cross posted this to the forum and the mailing list.

I've banged together a _very_ basic registry for LotusElan.net. The
intent is to give it to Jeff at LotusElan.net at some future point to
incorporate into the site. Since that is my intent, I stole the site
layout for version 1 of the registry. Jeff has not (yet) consented to
this so I might need to rip it apart
You can see version 1 at:
<a href='http://www.unibrain.org/motorsports/elan/registry/' target='_blank'>http://www.unibrain.org/motorsports/elan/registry/</a>
Records you add will not display until I flip the bit.
I need some feedback on the information being gathered. Lots of people
have sent me email or posted information to the list. I've not captured
this since I really don't want to do the data entry until I've gotten
more feedback on what is being captured.
On the list of things to do are:
- Search Capability
- User Self Registration
- Edit Record Interface
- Display obfuscated email addresses
- Pretty up the display
On the maybe list:
- ability to post a picture
- hot link the URL/Email address
- CSV output

Nice website. Found your photo history useful as I need to put my Elan together after a few years in pieces so this could be useful when trying to remember what goes where, although it appears to show that no two Elans were never assembled exactly the same way.
The registry part looks great, just enough information without telling everybody, here is my car come and steal it. If you did show chassis and engine numbers, do people thint that would be asking for trouble? Someone might try to 'clone' an existing car, just a thought? Perhaps some information might only be for administrators or registered users and not the 'general public'. I notice that people advertising their cars on the internet often hide the registration number for similar reasons.
As you mention, the ability to put a couple of photos with the car details would also be good.

Just thought that I would give new members a reminder about Jim's Elan/+2 Registry:
http://www.elanregistry.org/
If you have not yet put you car on the list, please take the time now.
