AKS Water pump - or is it Woe-ter pump

PostPost by: nigelrbfurness » Wed Jul 15, 2015 4:23 pm

Does anyone have knocking around a spare water pump capsule body for the AKS front cover? I've just had to strip mine (first time in 25 years, but only 30K miles) and the pump capsule body has corroded completely through the O ring groves, so it came out in several bits. I have replacement bearings, pully boss, impellers and seals but no pump body! I did have spare and I've just tried to assemble a pump with it (twice) but it is so badly machined (must have one of Bert's "off" days) so the shaft does not fit centrally and the whole thing is cock-eyed and clearly useless. I guess it might work for a bit if all else fails. I'm trying to avoid having to purchase a new front cover and pump if at all possible - cost as ever a factor. Perhaps plate over the hole and fit an electric pump?

Any other suggestions/ideas welcomed.

Thanks in advance - I know someone will have a solution.

Hi Nigel
I've just had my elan S3 engine rebuild done by Moreland Jones and they replaced the AKS set up with the standard one. The cover was in good condition except for slight corrosion around the outlet pipe, easily repairable. Give Steve or Tony a call on 020 8741 3116 and I'm sure they will let you have it if not already thrown in the bin!
Good luck
