Sprint at NEC auction

http://www.silverstoneauctions.com/lotus-elan-sprint sold for ?40,500 including buyers premium. I had a really good look at it and you could nitpick the odd thing but overall it seemed excellent. I was in a rush with so much to see so didn`t inspect the yellow S4 which didn`t sell with a guide of ?22k-?25k but reading the description it sounds a good car.
I wonder at the price disparity, is it because above a certain price point buyers are prepared to pay much more for something a bit better ? Are Sprints that more desirable? Or is it simply that people, not me, don`t like yellow?

Jim yes, of course Sprints are by far the most desirable Elan version!

Mazzini, yes I`d forgotten about that thread.........and I started it, doh! Only yesterday a friend was telling me that XK120s were worth ?********************* based on some he`d seen for sale. I`m more interested in auction prices as they`re what someone actually paid on a certain day, and when the underbidder was offering nearly as much. The disparity with Sprint prices this year just seems greater than ever.
The trouble is, taking XKs as an example, their value is such that specialists seem to think that the cost of spare parts should be proportionate. I`m told an XK140 dashboard is ?7k, a revised pedal box is ?3k, I assume including fitting. We don`t want that happening with Elans.

I rent a unit next to one of the UK's leading E-type specialists; the cost of restoring an E-type is breath taking, I sold mine and spent the money wisely on drink and women

The yellow S4 looked OK, nothing special, no visible horrors either.
I wanted to look at the Sprint but could not find it on Friday!
