I beg to differ!
This car has really been around the mill over the past few years. Last time I saw it, it was painted Maroon Mono. That was on the back of a low-loader going through my local market town. I had had a good look at it when it was for sale a couple of years prior to that at a local garage - it was red over white then and 'well used'.
Now of course, it's back to it's original yellow over white. Except that the photos make the yellow look too deep for the correct shade. Furthermore, the gold decals have not been applied too well, which to my mind indicates a poor re-spray and lack of attention to detail.
Two other points of concern. Classic & Sports Car Essex are not a marque specialist; in fact, as far as I know this is the first Elan they have had through their hands. They are MG specialists and my MGB owning brother in law was recommended to take his car elsewhere than to them. The other point is that the engine should be fitted with Dellortos, not Webers. Notwithstanding that some people prefer Webers, when this Sprint left Hethel it would have had Dellortos.
I therefore dispute the auction house's conclusion that this would be a concours winner; but then I am a complete anorak when it comes to original Sprints! I also feel their price range to be top heavy for this particular car given the above and the buyers premium it will attract.

The car looks very good, but it would be such a shame if it were to be the wrong yellow. It may just be the photos though, and as it's so easy to get right nowadays, why get it wrong?!
If anybody on here buys it I have a perfect / restored set of Dellortos that came off a '72 Sprint ready to go on it!!
