SMS body refurb and paint - feedback

PostPost by: dunclentdr » Tue Jun 03, 2014 10:04 pm

I am considering entrusting the body prep, panel alignment and paint to SMS - I have read recent excellent feedback on their work, I wonder if there is other feedback which you will share, including on the resilience of the paint a number of years post application.

Thanks

David

My S4 was painted and prepped by SMS in 2011, it looked stunning then and still does now. To be almost fastidiously critical there are a couple of micro blisters on the trailing edge of the boot/trunk lid that appeared over this admittedly very wet winter.

I have had both a Europa T/C & a Lotus Cortina (yes they do metal cars as well - this included some panel replacement) prepared & painted by SMS & they did a superb job on both.

Hi David,
Not sure if you've got sorted yet with your car repaint but mine is currently with SMS. Mick, Paul & Steve are great to deal with and have kept me up to date all through my car restoration with lots of photos of their work. check out my post under Elan forums North Yorkshire FHC Sprint rebuild

I had a ak cobra painted by them about 8 years ago. To be honest it was ok but I was expecting perfection- I didnt get it. The AK was a terrific car and was an easy build and I would recommend one to anybody

Well my car is now finished and I'm hoping to pick it up next week so will post photos of it when I get it back home. As I said earlier the guys at SMS have done a stunning job for me which included re-profiling the badly fitting doors, headlight pods and re-gelling the bodyshell. All in in all a superb job.
Ian
PS : I have nothing to do with SMS other than been a very satisfied customer.

Not sure if Option 1 is better (I have seen their work and it is fantastic), the price differential is significant, some thousands.
