I always thought they were the secret ingredient in the "brocquet" (remember them) lead booster device.

I'm so lucky; no sprout stress this year!
There were so many left from last hear that I put them into a slow cooker & they've been working away there on top of the stove since.
This will be a vintage year
Cheers

It appears that no one knows how to cook these things:
Strip first layer of leaves.
Cut a cross in the base
Soak in salted cold water for 10 mins. Drain.
While the sprouts are sitting in the salted water, melt a knob of butter onto chopped up onion (about a sprouts worth), salt and pepper. Half fill pan with water and bring to the boil and add sprouts one at a time so as not to reduce the water temp too much. Season with mixed italian herbs or herbs of your choice.
The trick now is to keep checking the spouts with a pointed knife until the blade enters easily but there is still some texture, a bit like boiled spuds.
Pre-heat a serving dish so they stay warm.
Enjoy.

Oh, you utter heathen!!!!
Your recipe sounds most interesting indeed for "normal" sprouts.
But you must surely know that the cooking & preparation of "Christmas" sprouts stretches into the realms of months!!
Honestly, some people are just beyond any form of help
Cheers

Mine are undergoing a good soaking in Jack Danials sippin whiskey as we speak and then into the pressure cooker . Hopefully if they don't explode they may be close to done? I'm adding a protractor and a compass so they may become weapons of math destruction......ed
