Jay Leno's Elan is no more easily confused for a 26R than is the item masquerading as a Lotus XI. That one does not even look like a good Westfield.

I agree with your comments on Leno's car. I was really referring to number of cars in attendance.

There was a lot of "hype" on the build of that car.

The 11 is fugly. Lhd 11 never existed and the switchs on the dashboard are bad taste.
The super seven with the bda or bdr engine id great. Using aeroquip fasteners and hose for the heater is a bit too much but show how maniac must be the owner.
Jay leno car show an interesting rad set up installed in front of the body. Why is the engine said to be all aluminium? Is he using a 2l bdg alloy block? The cockpit is ugly and the 26r red steering does not match the ugly leather colour.
A lot if money put into that elan for a so so result...

Thanks for the photos Ken. Missed driving down in the Elan this year because that is a great show. Someone worked hard on that Westfield 11 and it's one of nicer ones I've seen. Jay sure looks like he's enjoying his street 26R creation and it's a nice custom that looks well engineered. I've heard it goes like hell with that alloy block, big CC twin cam. That was built by Jennings ? A BD engine in a Seven is hoot and great for crossed up driving. I have been using my Elan almost daily and had a great sprint up and around Santa Ynez valley yesterday.

Thanks for the photo's Ken!
I initially thought fair play with the mechanical modifications in the build (each to their own .etc).
But that interior looks terrible, was it sourced from a retirement home? Looks very odd colours and out of place to me.
Good to see people driving some "right-hookers" the wrong side of the pond.
But hey that's just my opinion, as long as the car makes him smile, he's the one who's winning!

Has anyone seen anywhere any details on the head and cams that he has on that alloy block and where he sourced them? I presume it would be a new SAS head with big ports and big valves and a high lift short duration cam for the sort of use he is planning for it as a canyon racer as he does not need a huge amount of revs for big horsepower out of 2.2 litres -- at least that's how I would have built it with his budget, but it would be interesting to know
cheers

Thanks for posting Ken. Looks like a great event.
I like genuine original cars but can appreciate all sorts. I think there is some confusion between taste and style ? It is fairly well established that (some) Americans lack taste but there is similarly no way that the Brits could carry-off the Green/Red or the Blue/yellow colour schemes. I think the red switches go well but the horn push and gear knobs aren?t in keeping.
Similarly Jay?s car is nicely done. He produced a good blog and did the car the way he wanted it. Lets face it if he wanted an exact 26r he would have bought one!
