New Aero Package

PostPost by: lance54 » Sat Feb 09, 2013 2:08 am

This one is just for fun. Here is the rarely seen 26R Front Aero Package.

Designed to reduce under steer no doubt.

The effectiveness of this design must be questioned because Elan 26-S2-7 took a hard hit into the tire wall at Lime Rock Park shortly after this moveable aero element was deployed.

The chrome strip clearly has a specific purpose to hold in the bumper :D

I knew Colin woud not have added it without it having a function.

Somewhere I have a photo of my car during a race when the chrome strip came loose and assumed a similalr position. Luckily the bumper stayed in its rightful place.

cheers

Now I see where Red Bull got their idea to use an "accidentally" flexible front wing.....

If the bootlid flew open it might aero balance the car.

That looks quite a crunch!

At the Le Mans Classic last year it was time to try the optional thru-flo ventilation:

Wow! that's what I call a king size bodge!
Such a lovely & extremely expensive car but with the optional hard top stuck on with what appears to be just with sticky tape!
Did the man expect any other result?
The mind really boggles

Cheers

I thought some of the racers used tape over the hardtop join and around the door gaps to improve air flow?
Obviously something has gone wrong here though! (Lightweight hardtop buckled under the force of the air moving over it??)

Hey, that's me behind the camera! The "Jim Clark tape" is obviously not as sticky as it was, probably due to H&S and COSSH regulations.

I hope that one earned a black flag before the whole assembly was torn off and left for someone else to dodge on a straight.

Ooops I really put my foot in it there; hope you'll forgive my "bluntness".

But hey! it appears that David is also holding the doors on with the stuff

Simon was fine, though very pist off... Funny thing was before the race I was chatting with him & he was saying the paintwork was getting a bit tatty...
