If it's a Coupe (36), it would be an S3 pre airflow model, probably a 66 or 67
If it is a roadster (26), it would be a late S2

A picture would certainly help, as would where in the world you are located.

You could contact the Lotus archivist for the meager amount of info that they may have. Not sure if this addy is current: [email protected]

If this is the one then the thread above should give you alot of info on your car.

Looks like a nice, clean (although modernised, in some respects) car; seems like a lot of money by UK standards but I guess supply and demand in the US come into play.
If you quote all the info on the build-plate to the archivist at Lotus, he should be able to tell you something. Did you not get a file with the car? I would have expected some degree of certified provenance at that price.

Welcome to the forum, btw.

Off topic: if I had anything to do with running this forum it would be compulsory to show real name and location, amusing though some of the user-names may be.

Looks like a really nice car, but that's a lot of money even by US standards.

Off topic again... Sorry

Edit: I suppose I should add, due to recent bruised egos and hurt feelings, that I had to post that. It was posted tongue in cheek and in no way relates to any other postings. Couldn?t help myself.

Yes, it might seem like a lot of money, but it reflects the condition, good upgrades, and lack of DPO bodges that so many Elans have suffered. I have a pretty good idea what it will take in cost and time to restore my Elan to as new condition, doing most all the work myself.

The price paid is quite fair for the value received. If you are going to buy a nice Elan, buy a really good one and enjoy! If you want a project, it will cost just as much, but on the "easy payment plan".

Dan Wise

Mr. Dentist, did you buy the car? If so where are you located? I went for a ride in the car, it is beautiful.

p.s. welcome on board!

Hey there

Don't worry about the price. Generally it's my wife who says that I pay over the odds for cars. But as I say old cars are an investment.

As someone else wrote earlier it's best to pay and get a good one and spend time driving it as compared to repairing it and don't worry there will be plenty of repairs to do in the future however much you pay for the car. But old cars do appreciate unlike their modern contemporaries that loose money from the moment you place them on the road.

I recently bought an S4 in the UK from a friend and will not tell anyone how much I paid so no one can criticise if they don't know the price.

Just drive and enjoy.
