Curious as well!!
I assume it was his way of ending the listing for a local sale. Wonder how that all worked since it had a bid of over 18K.

Yeah, REALLY.
This certainly re-inforces my confidence in eBay. Hah.
I used to sell and buy a bunch on that website but have grown weary of their ways over the past few years. read PayPal requirement.
The question is..... how could this guy accomplish the figure twisting and eBay allow the behavior?

This is typical ebay procedure, anyone can list something and then cancel the auction before it ends. A lot of the car dealers indicate that the car is for sale locally and have the right to end the auction if sold. I don't know if he sold it locally, but common sense says he did. But with the number of sniping programs that bid for you in the last few seconds, he may have did himself a great dis-service as I have seen these things go crazy in the last few seconds. Car was nice though, but maybe he was new to ebay and let it go for $20K whereas it may have gone for $25K. But he will never know lol.

It seems that a large percentage of eBay listings get pulled for a serious buyer rather than going to the end where who knows what the high bidder's intent really is. I just bought a Lotus from eBay in that way. And how many auctions have you seen that get re-listed multiple times for "buyers" who fail to complete a transaction.
The recent auction we are all talking about where an Elan was bid to $50,200 is the exception, and that was a gutsy move really, and who knows how that will play out. The cars in which I have had an interest have always been pulled, including the one I just bought.
You might have seen it at LOG 32.
