Elan Sprint on a Track

PostPost by: mark030358 » Mon Oct 15, 2012 6:06 am

The U Tube video below shows a Sprint being thrashed round a circuit, and doing a reasonably good job too, Until, about 1:30 minutes in, just coming out of a bend onto a straight the car seems to oscillate violently. What causes this... and pleas don't say bad driving :)

I do that all the time when I try to drive the Elan around in Playstation. To much gain on the steering wheel control makes it oversensitive and hard to control and also the lack of seat of the pants feedback. You over correct and end up with what the bikers call a "tank slapper". It can happen in real life also with to great a steering input

Ha Ha. This is some pretty sloppy driving, but also a very poor handling Elan as well. If you look at the lines and shift points this is like a how to not drive manual. As was mentioned, it rides awfully high, maybe 6 inches? I've driven several dozen solo 1 events and I can't remember my Elan ever being completely sideways or misbehaving like this in high speed corners.

Sorry dude you need to work on smoothing your driving out and get some good rubber under you. Violent lifting of the throttle results in severe oversteer and you are not catching on to that plus..... Brake ..shift ..turn..apex ..balance ..accelerate on line ....make that your mantra ...in short.......YOU AINT SMOOTH ....so you ain't fast ..car has nothing to do with it and there is so much more ..get a good coach or attend a good driving school before you get hurt ..Ed

Well its round the Top Gear track. Looks like getting into a tank slapper and lifting off. The car is hardly being driven to exploit the Elan to its best.

Precisely.
Why are we even discussing this garbage. The only worse thing is finding what you think will be an interesting video on You tube only to find it's a video game upload.
Even saw some kid, who probably didn't even have a license, seriously discussing the driving characteristics of a car based on his Playstation experience.
Good grief......

Ralph.
