Lotus Elan Sprint XBM 519K

PostPost by: smithy26r » Tue Aug 14, 2012 7:34 am

Hi All,
When I was 19, I owned the above car whilst living in Cumbria in 1986 and have often wondered what happened to it?
It was unusual in that it had significantly flared arches at the rear, with 5 1/2 J rims that had been further offset to take up the space.
Any information would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Smithy.

Hi Smithy
I cant help with info on the car, but you just took me back to 1985 when I was 19 and I bought my first sport car.
Sadly I think the era of young lads in sports cars has long gone
I cant believe how things have changed now with young people not been able to get insurance even on a 1 litre or getting quoted insurance premiums that are ?3000+

Young free and single driving sports cars.
Happy days

DVLA have a record of the car listing date of liability as 1991. It is listed as yellow.

Must be lurking in a garage somewhere .........

As a surveyor, working throughout Cumbria, I will keep my eyes peeled

...one of these days I will tell you about the laid up S2 a surveyor friend of mine, discovered, and subsequently bought, as a result of a house survey. The price was criminal

Hi Guys,

You are right Clive, a friends 18 year old son, just had a quote for a 5 year old Mini............?5000.00!!!!

Thanks for the information Nebogipfel.

I have found a photograph which I have scanned and uploaded, so apologies for the quality, but you can make out the difference in rim offset front and rear.

Happy memories!

Cheers.

Just an observation - those are quite impressively 'uphill' sprint stripes.
