I just started working on another Elan. It is a Federal S4 DHC. It is 45/9166!!!! The car is a 1969. Not sure of the month, but am working on it. That is how I found this post.

I have 45/9195 and it is a 1969 SE, I also have 45/9292 which is titled as a 1970. But cars back then were actually titled in the year sold and not as model year as they do today.

Your car was invoiced by Lotus on 6th Oct 1969. The VIN is the 'Unit' number, the 'Body' number is just that and separate.
