Hello, I am a newby to this site. I just purchased a elan plus 2 that I believe is an s model as well. I will be selling this car soon but hoped to get some information so I can correctly identify just what I have. First off I need some help with ID numbers. The complete vin # is a long one 70020410024n the ID tag in the windshield is just 0024n The engine # on the tag is I22063 however the # on the engine block looks to be EP6059 LBA and # on back of head appear to be 9086 LP (reading backward with mirror) the car has not been on the road for 20 years. It has a weber head engine that turns over easily by hand. It is over all a good little car, been 20 years inside a dry barn. Body is very good with no apparent accident damage or fractures and what I can see of the chassis looks to be both rust and accident free as well. Interior is surprisingly good original, the seats in particular, dash is cracked, all instruments are in place. it appears to be 100% complete including all 5 alloy wheels. I think it might even be original paint, not sure but can see no overspray anywhere. Also has webesto pull back sunroof. Can anyone please give my a price range for the car and share any knowledge regarding my engine. thanks in advance

Your numbers look close, the Unit number looks to have an extra digit, possibly
70 02 04 0024n
The engine number is
I 22063 but may be I 22061, this is listed in Frank Bertrangs Plus2 data, he also has the build date of August 13th 1970 and was Royal Blue
The head is not the original, the original engine was a standard Stromberg Federal engine The I is that designation,
My guess is the engine and head really match but you need to look a bit better, a camera sometimes can be a help to read both numbers.

Dave - looks as though someone has installed front seats from a much earlier car. For a car here in the UK you would pay anthing from ?6000.00 to ?11,000.00 maximum.

Well I have just posted this car to a 7 day auction on EBay with a starting bid of $2,500 and no reserve, so it is for sale now. Everything I have learned about this car is in the new listing, many thanks to those that responded with information. Here is the auction # 290705513969

Maybe a cut and paste of the link, I am ebay challenged, where is the Plus2 located. What else did you find about the numbers.
"just drug home" suggests mid west but what does an east coaster know?

Hi Dave in Oregon,
It looks like you've got a winner there, to a certain degree. I'm bidding on it.
I'd be careful about that frame crack explaination as your otherwise accurate ebay description reads "This is no small thing because whoever gets to restore this little gem will have the benefit of starting with a car that is exactly as it left the factory." Lotus didn't let Lotuses leave the factory with frames cracking open. Your photo showing the crack is a very good photograph. The car is unsafe to drive and we all thank you for that information.
Good luck, it looks like a very original example, I expect to get outbid, and I can't wait to see what it brings on today's market.

I also looks like the other front upright has been box welded. New frame needed, but it does look like a nice project. I hope it gets a good home. Dan

Thanks for the heads-up. I have made a correction on the listing. I might be the only guy on the planet who could mess up a 4 diget ID number?
This is a big plus for you as the engine now matches the VIN (this is the original engine for this vehicle).
Numbers correct as per +2 data list published by Sports Car World in 2006.

I'd say that was about right. Projects here in the UK seem to make ?3,000 for the engine plus ?1,000 for the rest.
I just watched one on uk ebay end with no bidders. They started it at ?5,000 which was too much for the interested parties.
I remember when I bought mine and projects were ?1500 to ?2000.
