Previous owners of a US car

PostPost by: terryp » Tue Jan 24, 2012 6:58 pm

Hello
In the UK if you want to know previous owners you pay your ?5 and providing the car is UK registered at the time  you can find out all the previous owners.

My new Elan is a 1969 Federal car , I am in touch with the last two owners in the US that take the car back to 1986 but is there any way to get information further back. The car was registered in Wisconsin

Thanks

I think you are shit out of luck, not done that way here in the U.S. Post the Unit number/Chassis number, maybe someone will know it, may I have info on it, I kind of doubt it, S4's are a bit late for my interests.

Terry,
you could try at the start and ask Lotus to give the name of the Lotus dealer in the USA. Then ask for info from Lotus Clubs in the USA about the dealer

Alan
I did that, I spoke to Andy at the archives , but its the dealer on the west coast that is now long gone - Dutchess Auto Company. There were some people on here that knew old employees but all the records would be gone?

Don't know if this helps or hinders but the Wisconsin Dealers may have been:

Louis Auto Inc
3765 North 124th Street
Brookfield 53005

When did New York move to the west coast? :) Dutchess was the East coast importer. Maybe join Lotus Limited and ask them about the S4 (with the Unit/chassis number). I have given them the info on most of my Lotus cars and they seem to have that data after a 7 year lapse in membership. What the the Chassis number? That is the only info that means anything at all in the U.S. All states have their own registries so unless you know where it was first registered you are really not going to get anywhere, even if they kept that data which is highly unlikely.

Terry, post a couple of pictures of your car here. Could be that the owner was a member of the Chicago outfit, Lotus Corps. Zog, Famous Frank and myself are members and maybe help i.d the Wisconsin owner.
