Baby Elan popups

PostPost by: Brian Walton » Sun Nov 13, 2005 3:13 am

A question for those who have more than one Elan to view. Is the size of the Elan popup lights the same throughout the series life (1,2,3,4 and Sprint). And if so is the rhs (looking forward) consistantly 1/2 less in width to the lhs popup?

with thanks.

I dont know about S1 2 or 3 but on my S4 they are close to identical.

Measuring at the rear corners of the pods with the headlights down
LHS width - 233mm
RHS width - 231mm

Most interesting Rohan. The S4 and Sprint seem to have almost perfect widths when it comes to the popups. The earlier cars where probably blessed with the orginial bucks when the body was put together. It needed the slight change in the S4 body shape to convince Lotus to clean up the front body line. Pity they did not take their enthusiasm to the lower door panels.

Hi Brian,
Has your bodyshell had a repair section grafted in the RHS ?
Repair sections appear to have slightly smaller apertures; probably to
allow for trimming to final size.
Regards,
Peter.

early S3 DHC - both popups same size - about 10" ? 0.1" corner to corner, measured over the top radius when closed.
