Honeymoon in an Elan

I'm either brave or want an early divorce but I am intending to drive across Spain and France in my Sprint for my Honeymoon after being deposited by ferry in Bilbao I leave in a couple of weeks and from having seen how much the new lady wife to be packs on a weeks trip I am seriously contemplating a Luggage Rack to fit on the boot lid. Does anyone know where I can get one? I am after one with suction caps that does not require any drilling of the boot lid.

Hi Mike,
Try this: https://www.europaspares.com/STYLING___EXTERIOR/BOOT_RACKS/
The stainless steel one looks pretty good.

Adi

You will find it very difficult to see out of the rear window. Something you rather want to avoid when driving on the strange side of the road.
I used to use one of those for a short while.
You might do better to do what Alex did, carry some pressure cans of puncture repair goo and leave your spare wheel behind so that you can use its space for luggage.
Make sure the new missus knows that stuff needs to be packed in soft squishy bags not hard suitcases.
Fill up the space behind the seats too.

We went on honeymoon in my Sprint in 1983, albeit to North Wales so I guess not as much luggage was needed. Trip was not entirely trouble free from a Lotus point of view - the Webers were leaking petrol so a few happy hours were spent at the then Weber dealers in Pwllhelli!
Anyway - still married after 27 years - and the Sprint still parked outside. "Just Married" still faintly visible in the bonnet paint, where the shaving foam used to write the message etched the paintwork.
Have a great honeymoon!

Unless your bride plays for the WNBA, she can slide her seat forward quite a distance before her feet actually touch thus freeing up a lot of space behind her. As a bonus, you get to look at her during the trip. If she feels uncomfortable being that close to the dash, you can always leave her seat in the standard position and fill up the end of her footwell with additional luggage. Have a wonderful trip.
