A SPRINT WITH LONGER LEGS - By Ivor Simon .

PostPost by: Verve » Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:37 am

Hi ,

I know it`s a long shot .... but does anyone happen to have a copy of the article " A Sprint With Longer Legs" , written by "Ivor Simon" , for the "Northern Lotus Owners Club" (UK) ?

Apparently the Club Editor at the time could have been Gary Weston .

I now own Ivor`s Sprint 5 DHC ( which is a great road Elan with the period Lotus 5 speed box ) ... and I would be very interested to read his article : ) .

Here`s hoping ...

Cheers ,

Paul .

I do have a copy somewhere - it may take me a while to hunt it out - but I shall!

Good One Tim ,

I should have thought of your brilliant self in the first place ; ) !

I hope it turns up ... not just for my own self indulgence ... but in memory to Ivor as well ...

Fingers crossed ....

FANTASTIC GORDON : ) .

Well done ... the article is very informative and extremely well written .... respect to Ivor also ; ) .

Presumably Gordon , it`s you Ivor refers to in Germany ?

If so , I`d love to hear your experience of a long term ownership of a geniune Elan Sprint 5 ?

Thanks Again ,

Paul

Phew, saved me from going through a pile of Lotus paperwork lurking at the bottom of my bookcase!

Have a look at Gordon's web site, plenty of info on his Sprint there, so much so you will need to draw up a chair, pull a pint and settle down for a couple of Lotus filled hours!

Can anyone identify the nylon bush on the end of the selector fork referred to in topic 4 of Four Other Vital Things To Do section of the Ivor Simon article?

Given all of the mentions of propshaft/drivehaft vibration issues that have cropped up in other posts, it's interesting to note the advice NOT to part it at the splined shaft because of the risk of it not going back on in the same way and thus becoming out of balance... I wonder how many people miss this?

On the subject of improving the 5 speed gearbox shift quality, there's an article on how to re-build these gearboxes somewhere on this website that also advises using a softer spring to provide resistance as you move the lever to the right to get 5th gear.
