No details yet but ?18,000-?20,000 guide price so it must be good. I`m thinking it won`t sell at auction for what seems a dealer retail price.

This is a good Sprint, in it's current ownership for the last 15 years or so and kept as original as possible. The price guide is about right in my opinion.

The auction is tomorrow and, as usual, I`ve been for a look around today. The Sprint, originally an S4 S/E converted by the factory to a Sprint, looks very nice, very, very nice. To be pedantic the paintwork isn`t perfect, though very good, and the carpets aren`t quite right. Also, under the bonnet is nice and clean but not concours and the car has only been driven about 500 miles a year for the last decade. It always makes me wonder why. I just feel that ?18,000 -?22,000 is too much for an auction, though I hope it isn`t. If I was looking for an Elan I`d certainly be very interested at, say, ?15,000. It`s just my opinion though.
There`s also a just as nice, if not better, +2S at ?7,500ish. Slightly worrying is that the cam cover is not a big-valve one so you`d need to check the engine number, but other than that, if you`re looking for one, it`s worth contacting H&H with a telephone bid. I reckon that is good value but, again, it`s only my opinion .............and what do I know?

May I please correct you. This is a genuine, pure Sprint, not a S4/Sprint. The unit number 7107 17 0422 G indicates it was made in July 1971 with the engine number N24785. It was invoiced by the factory on 17 July 1971 and sold in kit form by Bell & Colvill. All those dates are well after Sprint FHC production got under way at Hethel in January 1971. (DHC production started in March 1971)

Of the 46 S4s converted by the factory that I know of, none were made later than January 1971, the majority dating from before October 1970.

I was just going on the catalogue description re. S4 S/E conversion. The auction hammer price was ?17,500.

Hammer price ?7,600 for the +2 but on closer examination the paintwork, which looked great, appeared to have been sprayed over filled crazing in a few places.
