What do the letters before the engine number signify? LP, G, K...

For any curious, I found an earlier email from Gary as to what the letters before the engine numbers signify:

C, D, E, F of wich there is a listing for only C and D weber types
G Stromberg Federal
H Super S/E
K Standard Domestic
L S/E Domestic
LP Probably all weber as I didn't see any serial # higher than 8600
M S/E stromberg domestic

I thought I had seen it before, but couldn't find it right away.

Wasn't LP for Lotus parts, and indicating it was a replacement part? I seem to remember something like that, but can't find it with a quick 5 minute look.

Hi Rob
The quote that dan used is from the topic below and is taken somewhat out of context. LP is Lotus Production or maybe Lotus Part to some.
elan-f14/elan-production-numbers-t14219.html

Dans question as to the prefixes is answered in Miles Wilkins book on Twin Cams on page 180 in the book I have. It is in Part Three at the start of the twin cam data section and labeled
I Engine Identification

LP is not one of the Prefixes that has any significance as to the spec of the engine. What I was refering to in the quote is the engines listed in Frank Bertrang's production records of Elans in the .PDF listed on Sports Car World.

And, perhaps even more definitively, by Lotus themselves in the first section of the Workshop Manual.
