Quick Blast in a Sprint

This is from the Evo magazine group Lotus test (Jan 09) and is taken using Harry Metcalfe's DHC. He wasn't driving and I wonder if he realised that his tachometer was not working!

I'm not too impressed with the driving style - exactly the opposite to mine.

I always boot it on bends and feather on short straights - that's on public roads, of course.

Fantastic! Just wish my Sprint was back on the road this morning - a glorious winters morning here on the Wirral and would be perfect for a blast into North Wales. Unfortunately rather more traffic, speed cameras etc since I used to go for an early morning blast 25 years ago!

The sound of the gearlever snicking into place as he starts the run is so reminiscent. Back in the early 80s my uncle has a new red Lotus Esprit and we used to drive out into North Wales late in the evening for some sea trout fishing. Seem to remember hitting some unmentionable speeds on the straights with the Esprit close by - the Sprint had no problems keeping pace!

These days of course I am older and wiser and will no doubt only drive far more modestly when my Sprint is back on the road.

I shall venture out to the garage this afternoon full of enthusiasm - job for the afternoon is putting the new Andy Wiltshire fuel tank in place - getting there slowly but surely!

Thanks for posting this link. It was a joy to watch and makes me yearn for the return of my own car. It's in the shop now for an engine rebuild after having compression problems on #2 and #3 cylinders last summer (showing 50-60% yield).
Used the opp'ty to have the crank shaft balanced and off course a new water pump and timing chain.

Anyway,this video was also helpful for me regarding the car's peculiarities.
Since taking ownership of my boyhood dream car about 2 years ago, it's been 20 years since I've seen one let alone driven one.
It was good to see the gear change "snicking" into place, stuck wind screen wipers and a nice speed at zero rev's. I was glad to find out that I am not the only one with these wee problems.

Is it normal in the UK for drivers to use both sides of the road? I can understand why but it doesn't seem a good idea tome. I'm not picking on the UK. I've known some people who do it here in the States too.

I wouldn't want to be coming the other way, having to trust the sight and judgment of someone who reckons he can be safely on his side by the time I arrive. Makes track driving all that more appealing.

Anyway, it was nice to see a great car on a great road.
