Great Ocean Road

Hi all, a few pictures of a great weekend away in my sprint on Victorias Great Ocean Road. Even got Karen enthused to have a drive though she wasn't keen to try keeping up with the many bikes. Its such a great road and makes owning an Elan well and truly worth it.

A fab road. Peter. I lived in Melbourne during much of the 80s, and used to escape to the Ocean Road quite often in my Dolomite Sprint (with twin 40s, so it sounded quite like a twink!) for a long thrash. In those days there was still a 20 km or so dirt section, so the Dolly would be a circuit racer for most of the time, then a special stager for a few minutes. Your Escorts would have loved it?.very jealous that you have two of those.
Another favourite was the back roads from Marysville, via Lake Eildon to Mt Buffalo. Again, a lot of dirt (or mud depending on the time of year) and a lot of fun.
Now I live on the edge of Wales, which has some magnificent, empty and twisty roads through the hills, lakes and mountains?the perfect Elan playground.

How has the Sprint turned out? I seem to remember that you only found it last year.

The photos are great and I totally agree with your assesment

The great ocean road is one of the best Lotus roads in the world. I am lucky enough to have a holiday house at Lorne on the ocean road a couple of hours out of Melbourne. The reason to have the house I gave Anna was that it was a great place for the kids on the beach during the holidays. The real reason is that I can keep one of the Lotus down there and get up early on a Staurday or Sunday morning and go for a drive before the bikes get down from Melbourne and slow you down through the corners (and the police get up to chase them).

Hi Mark. The Sprint has been fantastic. There are a few things that need doing. Fit the trim along the front bumper, fit wheel trims, fix chip in l/h front wheel arch, but am enjoying the car way too much to work on it. I'm still trying to decide if I should paint it 2 tone or paint the bumpers or just leave it. I was lucky to find an Elan that was in such good condition. The first weekend away with the Elan was to Marysville via the Reefton Spur Road, another great road for an Elan. It's funny how weekend away destinations are now dictated by the surrounding roads. Karen is yet to work it out, but I'm sure she will. We have also had some great day trips to the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula wineries.

Hi Rohan. I know exactly what you mean about the house. We were thinking about a holiday house up on the Murray somewhere but the roads are way too boring so are having a rethink. We are planing more drives along the east coast so will keep an eye out for a Lotus harassing motorbikes.

I have not done the Gt Ocean Rd but intend to, trouble is I will have to drive 4000ks to get there!!! The road I really want to do is the Putty Rd in NSW from Western Sydney up to Singleton, now that is one twisty windy Rd.
