What not to do with a T/C

PostPost by: Brian Walton » Tue Jun 20, 2006 10:45 am

I have no idea what the story was behind this T/C piston and the valve within. It was a picture I took in the mid seventies and it has only hit the light of day since I opened an old box that was in storage.

"Untitled-Scanned-05.jpg" is a bit unimaginative.

Perhaps Piston_Broke.jpg would be more appropriate? :D

I've a similar one somewhere although nowhere near as spectacular, just a ring failure that embedded itself in the head, had the piston on my desk at work for years as a paperweight.

One of the engine reconditioning places I used to frequent 20 odd years ago had a huge array of big bang moments close to their reception counter, mainly huge pistons out of tanks and marine diesels, some you could barely lift, shell bearings melted like icicles and bent rods by the dozen.

I think it's on Race-cars.com. Long text about the wonders of the engine, mention of the historic prototype 8-plug head (but no mention of combustion chamber 4), welded blob barely visible in photo.

I guess people are biting, 'cause it just keeps popping up. I wonder if the rest of the engine is a collection of similar useless bits. Caveat emptor.
