Hood springs for S1

PostPost by: mastijo » Wed Oct 15, 2003 4:18 pm

My S1 is missing the 2 springs that hold the bonnet to the body. Actually
they lift the bonnet when the bonnet releases are pulled. I can get the
springs but need to know how they attach. I believe they attach to the
bonnet via bolts in the side of the bonnet where there are bobbins. My
question is where does the other end of the spring attach.

Thanks

There are some braces that attach to the radiator from the fenderwell. The
bolt at the fender is extended out and that is where it goes. I think. I
can take a look once I get home and take a picture if you like.

Fred,

A picture would be great. I spoke to another Lotus owner last night and he
said it was on the bolt that goes through the body into the front turret.
This bolt also attaches one end of the brace whose other end attaches to the
underside of the bonnet swivel point. I checked mine last night and that
brace has a hole in it which might be where the spring attaches. His had a
jam nut on the bolt and the spring attached to the top part of the bolt
protruding past the jam nut. I don't think mine had the jam nut

Thanks,
John

John,

I was wrong saying it was connected to the brace, as you can see in the
pics there are two small holes in the top flange of the frame. Here is the
left side spring http://96trees.com/lotus/spring-ls.jpg and here is the
right side http://96trees.com/lotus/spring-rs.jpg My hood/bonnet is off.
