Engine & Differential Detailing

PostPost by: johnc » Sat Jun 07, 2003 3:37 am

Should the timing chain cover and associated backing plate be left "natural" or was it originally painted?

Same question for the rear aluminum differential housing?

Using the term from the parts book, is the color of the "hood sticks" (i.e. on a S1/S2 the metal rods running between the cantrails) Lotus Gray? In otherwords, is the color of the "hood sticks" the same color as the original engine block, sump and head? If so, I am in luck as my "hood sticks" have the original paint intact.

Thanks, johnc

Well, John. on my 67 S3 the metal top rails and sticks came gray, the
valve/sprocket cover was blue, front chain cover and alloy part of diff
housing unpainted. i have seen a lot of diff housings, and never saw one
where the factory painted the alloy part. George

Hi,

I have seen both, however IMO the timing chain cover etc looks better painted grey (and there is no such thing as Lotus engine grey), while I polishedmy diff housing simply to make it easier to keep clean.
