Hood Tenax fastener locations

PostPost by: brassringfarm » Sat Dec 28, 2002 1:44 am

Elan friends -
I have a question about the location of the tenax fasteners in the vacinity
of the cantrail on an S2, please. I'm drilling holes for them in a new body
but my old body had had of all the holes fiberglassed over- so I have no
reference point. (I won't comment on the IQ of a previous owner) My repair
manual and parts manual are a bit unclear on this detail - so I'm hoping
someone could either tell me how they go - or send me a digital picture of
their location from their Elan.
The cantrail has an integral pin which fits into a hole in the body.(That
hole was already there in my body, luckily.) It's apparently also held by a
tenax fastener about 2 inches aft of the pin. Now, my old hood has 4 tenax
fasteners on the outboard side of the chrome hood clips that grab the flat
metal bar in the hood. It appears as though they follow a curve with the 4th
tenax fastener ending up laterally between the cantrail pin and the cantrail
tenax fastener---but just outside (below) the cantrail itself. Is that
correct? There are no holes in this location in the cantrail itself.
The reason I'm asking is that I had presumed they would all be in a nice
single curved line - as they were in my old Austin Healey 3000. I just don't
want to have to fill any holes after already painting the body.
Thanks
Paul

I have two S2 Elans and your description seems to match them very
well. The forward tenax fastener of the four is approx. at the same
point as the hole for the integral pin, but about two inches down the
body toward the ground (along the door seam). The remaining three
fasteners per side are about equally spaced on a curve leading back
toward the chrome clip.

If you need a picture or a diagram, I can see if I can prepare one,
but once you have the main idea, the rest isn't rocket science. I'm
sure that ol' Nigel just mounted the fasteners by eye, and the
receivers on the hood were then just matched up so the the hood fit
right from there.
