RAD. FAN

PostPost by: melvinhecht » Sun Oct 07, 2001 1:15 pm

I need to instal an electric fan on my S@ 1967 (really 1966) Elan. Anyone
know what's the best fit?

Thanks.

Has anyone mounted an after market electric fan on their Elan or Elan +2.
My
car came with the original Kenlowe temp. switch screwed into the radiator
but
there was no fan or brackets. There was a small fan on the engine. I have
rebuilt my engine and removed that dinky fan.

I have contacted Kenlowe and they suggest a 12.3 inch heavy duty fan for the
Elan +2. Apparently, that fan when installed will block the hood from
opening
more than a little as it will come in contact with it as it opens.

I wonder if 2 - 8" fans would be adequate? Maybe a thin profile fan mounted
as to pull air through the radiator? A thin profile as a "pusher" would
allow
the hood to clear it.

I installed a thin profiled fan used to cool the Air Con radiator on some unknown car- found in a "scrapyard"- I also had a radiator shop braze a connection for a switch to the radiator- works very well
Some of these fans are about 8" dia and I understand they are very effective

Hi Melvin,

I just posted a photo on the Yahoo website below, of the twin 10" Kenlow fan set-up on the wide type radiator I recently installed in my Plus 2 for a run over the Alps and down to Imola (near Rimini) They fit perfectly with a little trimming of the shroud. One is on auto through an adjustable thermostat with the sensor inserted at the hose to rad connection. The other is on manual fed from the permanent (non ignition switched)supply from the dashboard. I used the rear screen heater switch. Even one of these would be a considerable improvement on the original. (I never posted a photo before, how come I'm the only one I see in there ?)

One of the best mods I've done.

Hope this helps,

Sean Murray

Sean,

All the other photos are in the "files" section- don't ask me why.

Pete
