What bell housing did you use? What clutch disk and
cover? What slave cylinder?

Did you do a shortened tail housing conversion?

I'm going to chime in and would like to hear the details of this conversion.
Isn't there a problem with the gear lever location on a T9 being at the very
end of tail housing placing the lever much further back than the stock
position?

My Elan S2 has a 5-speed conversion and the shift lever is near the rear of
the the center console tray. Looks good, but does't look original. FWIW the
5th gear is good ror expressway cruising, but 95% of my Elan driving is on
back roads on 4th or even 3rd. That's where the fun is.

Paul I assume you used a 5 speed T9 and bell housing out of a US spec Merkur
XR4Ti. Ford blocks from the 2 liter Pinto, the TC, crossflow and even Zetecs
up to 1998 all have the same gearbox/engine interface so my guess is you
picked up the Merkur bits and bolted right up to the TC. The only issue as
mentioned in the earlier post is the altered gear lever position.

Hi Ed, listers,

I was interested in this a while back, don't forget that the Sierra
uses a cable clutch and on the Sierra (UK anyway) the starter motor
would foul the exhaust.

Can you tell me what RWD cars with a Zetec engine use the T9 box? I was
interested as I'd like one day to build up a +2 with a modern fuel
injected engine, 5 speed box and CV drive shafts and of course a spyder
spaceframe.

It is possible to cut the linkage and reposition it further forward, as
it is ALMOST a separate part of the casing. I shouldn't think this was
an easy job unless you had all the tools. Has anyone on the list managed
to reposition the lever?

Has anyone tried to mount the 4 speed bellhousing to the T9 box,
possibly with an adapter plate? If I had a spare bellhousing I'd give it
a try as T9's are easy to get hold of.

Hope this helps,

Sorry, I can't really say. The 5-speed conversion was done in the
mid-eighties by the previous owner. It's great on a cross-country trip.
Since I don't spend that much time on the expressway though, I'm considering
putting the original 4-speed back in. It will require a new center console
cover since the hole is in the wrong end. Best regards,
