Leaky servo

PostPost by: Stevie-Heathie » Mon Mar 05, 2001 12:58 pm

In December I too had a leaky servo and needed to get my Elan back on the
road quickly. I decided in the end to fit a replacement Lockheed unit. Not
cheap, but I did achieve my objective and get the car going pronto.

I got my servo from Matty, but found out since that I could have saved some
cash by ordering from Classicar Automotive. See their ad in the most recent
Club Lotus News. They are in Cheshire and their number is 01625 860910.

Best of luck!!

Just checking over the car ready for next week-end's trip to Donnington-
aaaarrrrgggh....... hardly any brake fluid in the master cylinder! There are
no visible leaks at any point on the system, can the fluid be disappearing
in the servo? If so, what do I do?

Thanks for the tip Steve. I am restoring my +2 and I need to replace my
servo.
I thought about getting it from Chris Neil but I will call Classic
Automotive and ask for a price.
Did you make new brackets to hold the Lockheed part ?

I got my local mechanic to fit the servo, because (1) at the time I was
afraid of messing with brakes, and (2) I was in a hurry.

I believe he bent a piece of sheet steel in a vice and drilled holes in it
in the right places. Others on the list will be able to advise as to the
best method. There is a series of helpful images wrt mounting lockheed
servos at the lotuselan page in yahoo.

Good luck!
