Door latches

PostPost by: mopho » Wed Dec 13, 2000 1:39 pm

We made aluminum plates which we screwed the latches to, which were then
screwed to the doors. The doors do not close as smoothly as with the frames
because there is no weight to them, they are like paper. Also you end up
with a gap across the top that needs to be blocked off ( winter project). I
plan to put some sort of insulation in the doors to keep the connection bar
that runs to the inside door handle from rattling. I like the way the car
looks a whole lot better without the frames but the car is now a completely
fair weather car as there is no side windows or top. I will take some photos
of the latch this weekend and post them as soon as I can.

I added a photo in my folder (Morgan Segal Photography) of how we made the door latch work without the door frames. It is made from scrap aluminum (aluminium-the correct spelling) pieces that were cut and folded.
