are secured with a standard cable tie.
The original hub, outer drive shaft and disk (rotor) assy remains as-is.
splined stub were integrated (a bit like a hand-bell in shape). The sierra
CV is (be afraid) a bit like a donut in shape! Consequently it bolts up
through an adapter (6 allen screws to 3 donut sized bolt holes (7/16ths))
I have a diagram somewhere.

These are the type of adapters I have just finished machining . I have not made up the drive shafts yet as I need to assemble the suspension on the chassis and set it at ride height to get the exact length . Soon now I hope ! I will scan some jpg's and can e-mail it directly if anyone is interested

They don't. ISTR that they fit over the outer component of the CV joint and
are secured with a standard cable tie.
The fit over either end of the intermediate driveshaft,

The manual says : "remove the circlips (done that) gently tap out the drive shafts from the diff "( tried that , have not succeeded, tried less gently , no movement , heated the ali rear cover around the bearings, still no movement, still looking for the T shirt)
What now, please !!!!

I use a "slide hammer". I made up a plate w/ the pattern of the donut holes w/ a center hole to fit the stem of the hammer. I believe mine is threaded 5/8-11 and for use on diffs still in place on the car, I use a bolt about 8"[200mm] long. Not much stroke, but enough to get the job done. Later, I made a another plate w/ the pattern for the four bolt flanges of my Eleven, and the whole thing goes to the track w/ me.

Arno, - did the job last week. Use a screw through one of the holes w/ nut on inside and pull the shaft off againt the diff carrier housing. Worked well for me, - but take care if it resists beyond reason......!!!!!

Thanks for the quick response Roger and Dag
I'll try Dag's first as I won't have to make something , If unsuccessful will go the Roger route. Will report back

Hey Arno,
There is another way to remove an axle by force. I wouldn't do this to a
Lotus diff though. Attach one end of several feet of heavy gauge chain
onto the axle, the other end in your hand and then snap it like a whip.
The instantaneous loading can be enough to loosen an axle. It could also
break the aluminum housing.

Been there, done that...got the T-shirt too, eventually.
Don't panic too much. For 'gently tap out the driveshafts from the diff'
rear 'bash as hard as you can with a large lump hammer, taking car not to
hit the alloy diff casing or you will dent it'.
Seriously...it can take a surprising amount of brute force to drive the
shaft out. I got to the 'Oh, well, I can always buy a new diff casing if it
breaks' stage before they finally moved, and in the even no damage was done.
You might try spraying liberally with penetrating oil and leaving to stand
for several hours, but basically there is nothing holding the shafts in but
sheer bloody-mindedness and 30 years worth of muck and corrosion.

Yeah ok, but how do you get the bearings off the driveshafts once you

having some difficulty in reomving the bearings from the outer drive

Also once the bearings are off the outer driveshafts, how does one
assemble the double bearings onto the shaft while trying to press
them into the aloy bearing housing. I was figuring on trying to press
the first bearing on the shaft, then pressing this into the housing
(heat probably required). Then you need to press the second bearing
onto the shaft and into the housing at the same time !!!
Am I missing a trick that makes this job easy.

Ben, I think you have figured it right! Sounds difficult, but "on the bench" it is straight forward. To get the bearing off the shaft, you would needto get two halv-moons to hold the bearing while you press the shaft through . These are often part of a good "puller-kit" - like Kukko . ( Japanese??) Be happy you don't have a Lotus-Cortina - those shafts are like 100 mtrs long and a handfull to position in the press. Wish you were an octupussy........

I do it just as you describe:
1. press the inner bearing onto the shaft (press only on inner bearing race)
2. press shaft & bearing into carrier (warming carrier helps, usually it is
not a very tight fit) _Gently_ tap onto the outer race using a softish (e.g.
Cu or Al) drift between the 3 lugs of the shaft.
3. press the outer bearing onto the shaft and simultaneously into the
carrier. I use an old bearing as a mandrel and press onto the inner race,
because this one is a tighter fit. Slightly enlarging the inner race
diameter of the "mandrel bearing" eases its subsequent removal.
just my 2?

with reference to assembling the rear wheel bearings .Once my shaft has been
repaired (build up damaged bearing seating area with metal spraying and
re-machine for UKP 50)I was intending to use the a tube, large washer and the
hub nut to pull the outer bearing on in 2 or 3 stages, any one tried this?
