+2 bonnets/hoods

Does anyone know when Lotus started to use +2 bonnets with bulges to
clear the Stromberg carbs. My 1968 model 50/1040 has the bulge
although it is a Weber model. The original paint (under the metalic
blue)is red like the rest of the car and I've seen several other
early +2's with Weber's and the bulge in the bonnet.
If no one knows for sure, maybe we could work it out based on who has
what bonnet.
On a slightly different track, has anyone noticed problems in the UK
with premium unleaded recently. My MGB insists on running-on despite
being taken for a tune on a rolling road.
Cheers

I don't think there ever was a flat bonnet for the +2. Tell me where I can find a photo of one if you think there were. Real early cars had Elan type boot latch instead of the cable remote so maybe there was an early bonnet too. I have a +2 parts book which might show, if there is a flat one.

Try this link for a picture of a late Plus 2 without bulge:

There's also a very early road test report on the site with pictures of
a car with a bulge.
My 71 Plus 2S has a bulge, and Webbers, from new.
