Hello

Hi
I'm new to the list, have two complete S4s, one in bits. My running car
has a 1760cc engine on 45s and L1s, comp. driveshafts, clutch etc. but
all else is standard. I would like to fit an LSD but am having trouble
locating the correct Ford device, pref. 3.9:1. Any suggestions chaps? I
am using the standard gearbox which is 2000E ratios. I have an S1 box and
an S2 box spare, would the S2 box be a better bet?

Nigel,

Quaife has limited slip diff internals which will fit Elan's diff case with
whatever crown wheel / pinion set you prefer. Have a look at
www.quaife.co.uk. "Ford English" is the type you need.

Cheers
Peter

Hi
Thanks for the replies re. the above. The question regarding the the
driveshafts is appropriate as the rubber doughnuts should not be used with
any kind of LSD. The Spider shafts consist of a heavy duty german made CV
joint and a caged rubber doughnut. These, I was assured by Victor Moore
(no longer at Spyder), are ideal for use with an LSD. In answer to the
question why use an LSD - I find I get a fair amount of wheel spin in
first and secon under heavy acceleration. All the suspension was rebuilt
with the rest of the car and has done about 8,000 miles so I don't think
the problem lies there. The car currently has 3.7 to 1 diff and an
indicated 140 is easily attainable with maybe a little more to come still
- the engine has only done about 8000 miles after all and I find the
twin-cam doesn't really give its best unitl more than 10,000. SInce I
prefer to have acceleration rather than top speed it seemed a better ratio
and LSD made sense! Comments definitely welcome!
