+2 boot catch

PostPost by: davidallen » Mon Oct 03, 2005 12:28 pm

Has anyone got some close up photo's of the correct assembly of the +2 boot
catch so you don't have to hang on the cable pull to open the boot!

I was looking at a '71 +2s130 the other day and it had a bell crank
assembly mounted in the rear wing to operate the catch, where as my +2 has a
cable running all the way to the catch. I assume it was an official change
but I have seen no documentation of this mod. I wonder if it was done to
make the boot easier to open?

Has anyone else this bell crank design?

I know the early +2's had an external boot catch above the number plate.

David

Interesting. My car is late 69 and no bellcrank. Is your car an "S"?

Bell crank - what bell crank?

My +2 (late 1973 S130) has a cable going straight from the handle above
the door catch plate to the boot catch. There is no bell crank. The
cable looks original.
Looks like the bell crank is a mod by the PO.

Regards,

Hamish.

The great thing about Lotus's is that no two were alike!

I don't think it was a homemade mod, it looked to "production".

Has any other +2 owner a bellcrank which operates the rear boot catch, and
if so, what is the age/spec of your car?

No. I have the workshop manual but there is no mention of it.

Any reference as to which serial number it was introduced?

Any chance you could scan the page for me?

My '69 Plus 2 has the cable going all the way to the release, but my '71 has the bell crank!

you really need the parts manual, it is at least as useful as the shop manual.

Don't have the facilities to scan here

929 seems to be the changeover for the [I assume] external lock, no other notes

David

My '69 is cable. I used the original latch bits on my restoration. However,
since I left the boot floor out and other bits were well rusted I made my
own Ali support for the latch. It turned out quite nice; a bit large but
very rigid.
