Lotus marked the original cams with grooves machined on the hub where
the sprocket fits as follows
Standard - Type B cam no grooves nominal 105hp in UK spec Weber head
SE - Type C cam 1 groove nominal 118 hp in UK spec Weber head
Big Valve Sprint - Type D cam 2 grooves nominal 126 hp in UK spec
Weber head.
Lots of cars have had their cams modified so unless you are sure of
the cars hisory since new you cannot really rely on these markings.
Many cam regrinders stamp a code number on the face of the cam hub
that designates their regrind profile so a number there probably
indicates a regrind. However no number does not mean it has not been
reground. Only way to be sure what a cam is, is to take the cam to a
cam grinder to measure it up properly.
