Really??? Useless??? Quite a neat idea to have some "spare" pins in plain
view...... :P

Those Ford items look really cool! Pity they don't come with some flashing
leds.....

On a serious note, how strong is the fibreglass around the bulkhead. Might
have to resort to bonnet pins but have seen a section of firewall ripped off
from a Sprint during a circuit race. Needless to say, the bonnet flew off
completely! Must have been an "ultra lightweight" bodyshell.....

Brian,
What started me off on the search for bonnet/hood pins was the (rather unsettling) opening of my bonnet at exactly 100mph! I have adjusted the crap Lotus catches every way I can and either I can't open it at all, or it opens at high speed!
There are some pins shown in the files or photos section by Andy Dijack called either "Audi" or "Oddie" pins which look neat and are available from Dave Bean for an extortionate price (in excess of $100?) but I can't find an alternative supplier for them- any ideas?

Incidentally, I have a second entry for the useless accessories- fake brakedisks, can you believe it?

Roger,
Try this, rather tenuous, link.
If this fails, let me know your e-address, as I can't find it!

Pete

Some time ago (many years) while motoring down the autobahn at a goodly rate of speed my Elan and it's bonnet parted ways. It really sailed, looking like a huge blue Frisbee, and finally came to rest undamaged in the grass along the 'bahn. That was bad enough but what really hurt was the Porsches and Mercedes laughing and pointing as I pulled over. I vowed, Never again!

Back at the shop, I found a piece of 1-1/2" 2024 Alu angle stock and cut off two 1" wide chunks. Fashioned a couple of hood pin brackets, a couple of hood pins from JC Whitney. I fastened them to the bulkhead with a couple of countersunk 10-32 screws with flat washers and nylon stop nuts on the inside. No more problems. BTW, For reasons I don't remember, I had the front spring disconnected at the time. Definitely cured the problem, plus its way cool racer.

Anyway, here are a couple of shots of the installation.
