I don't know of a source for these large diameter knob style cables. When Irestored my SS, which uses the same, I was able to rebuild one of mine that needed to be replaced. The outer housing of the cable assembly is not noticeably different between most cables of this type. The bezel may have somedetail differences, but the knob covers that up. If you have the knob and the stem intact (by stem, I mean the steel part about .150 diameter and 3 inches long), you can usually remove the music wire from the stem and stake or silver solder in a new piece of music wire. You might buy a complete cable assembly from an auto supply house, cut off the music wire to graft intoyour existing knob & stem and use the new housing, throwing away the new non-matching knob etc.

Actually, thinking about this today, I remember my heater cable broke on a tour last fall and I'll have to repair it this spring.

Roger, Thanks for the detailed reply. A previous owner has fitted
(Spitfire, or similar heat and choke assemblys) These work fine,
However these have the wrong (for elan)knobs fitted and just don't
look correct. I have thought, if all else fails, I can have some made
and fitted in the manner you suggest. I'm hoping someone has a set
sitting around.

I'm actually trying a resistor from a Mk2 Golf, for no other reason than
I had one. It actually has three resistor taps = three speeds, I'll
probably use the fastest (no resistance) and the slowest settings. On
the basis of having a 'defrost' position and a 'keep things warm, but
not get deafened by the fan' position.

I've tried it and it works. I'm pretty sure most ww resistors from most
cars would work.
